The Global State of Democracy is a biennial publication analysing and assessing the state of democracy around the world, based on data from a newly developed Global State of Democracy index. The publication includes an overview of global and regional democracy trends and developments, current challenges and crises, as well as evidence-based and actionable recommendations for policymakers and democracy practitioners worldwide. The publication’s first edition focuses on ‘Exploring Democracy’s Resilience’ and analyses a set of key challenges to democracy and the enabling conditions for its resilience. In Sweden, current challenges to democracy include the changes in political representation, rising inequality, migration and integration, and the insufficient voice of young people in democratic processes. The launch of The Global State of Democracy publication will provide the opportunity for participants to discuss and find solutions to current democracy challenges in thematic innovation labs, with the aim of harnessing their collective knowledge and expertise.
