The thesis is entitled “The transformative imagination - Re-imagining the world towards sustainability”. It explores imagination as a transformative capacity and studies the possibilities and limitations of transdisciplinary participatory practices of knowledge co-creation and art-based research in fostering capacities for social-ecological transformations. The empirical cases are in East Africa within the context of poverty alleviation and ecosystems change; and in the Iberian Peninsula in the context of climate change.
