The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI; www.stri.si.edu), invites qualified applicants to apply for a position as the STRI – World Economic Forum (WEF) André Hoffmann Fellow in Ocean Equity and Just Transitions. The position is a two-year research appointment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in marine science, or marine or environmental social science, engineering, or related areas, and show evidence of outstanding research potential. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is highly preferred.

Applicants from a diversity of disciplinary backgrounds or who cross disciplines – including marine technology and innovation, marine and coastal resilience, food from the sea, nature-based solutions, marine social science (broadly defined) and more are welcome. Candidates emerging from Engineering Schools who have a strong interest in working towards more equitable oceans and collaborating with Fellowship partners are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated experience (or disciplinary expertise) in environmental justice and social equity. In general, Hoffmann Fellows are in the early stages of their academic or professional careers.
