1. Garry P, Per Olsson, Victor Galaz and Albert Norström were among the authors who awarded the 2019 ESA Innovation in Sustainability Science Award for their 2016 study Bright spots: seeds of a good Anthropocene which was published in 2016 in Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment. They were given a nice little plaque. 2. Thorsten Blenckner thorsten.blenckner@su.se introduced the new project "Our common future ocean in the Earth system". It is a 4-year EU Horizon 2020 project. He is coordinating it together with Christoph Heinze from University of Bergen. All good things in life come from Bergen. Stop laughing. 3. Sara Elfstrand and Henrik Brundin from Swedbio reported back from the FAO Committee meeting on world food security in Rome 14-18 October. They were part of the Swedish delegation. Swedbio also organised a side event on agroforestry. Contact Sara Elfstrand sara.elfstrand@su.se for more details. 4. Jennifer Hinton teased us with what we can expect from her upcoming licenciate Friday 29 November 13:00, room 237: Profit-Orientation and Social-Ecological Sustainability. She also offered some interesting insights into the private ownerships of the many journals we publish in. Several dilemmas emerge, including how public funds end up in private investors' hands. Talk to Jennifer Hinton jennifer.hinton@su.se 5. If you are interested in transformation and innovation, Per Olsson, our very own inhouse turtle, recommended the book "Blue Marble Evaluation" by Michael Quinn Patton. Turtle? Because the rest of us are bunnies. Still confused? Contact Per Olsson per.olsson@su.se 6. Miriam Huitric gave an update to the exciting Erasmus+ student and teaching exchange programme with the Sustainability Institute and CST in South Africa. If you are interested, contact Miriam Huitric miriam.huitric@su.se. 7. Updates: - On Tuesday 22 Oct, 17:00, people contributing to ResearcherDesk from all over Stockholm (approx. 40 pers) will meet in the lobby to discuss the next activities and more long-term strategies. There are many new researchers that has joined RD lately, and we'd really like to know some basic stuff about, such as; how much / little do you want to contribute? What is your field of expertise? What do you look like, and to which name does that face belong? For preparation, interested people can answer the following survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-xgoFFH4YuhSQTOAU14fnSFjiGeNnxiM3LetnYXAo_I/edit?usp=sharing_eil&ts=5da78859 - This Thursday 24 Oct there will be about 30 guests at SRC for a food system dialogue. We will be moving between the lobby, Room 239 and the Board Room (248), all booked from 9.00-16.00. We will be having our lunch out in the lobby, so even though you might not see us there right at noon, it would be great if you left that free on Thursday. Thanks in advance for your patience! - 4 November 4th there will be a workshop for young SRC scientist (PhD students + postdocs) that will gather and organise our input and perspectives into the ongoing Strategic Science Plan of SRC. The workshop will take place on room 239 from 13-16. Info was sent by email to the phd and postdocs email lists last week. If you’re a young scientist and did not got the email, please contact juan.rocha@su.se - Olof Olsson is the new interim director of the EAT Foundation. Congratulations, Olof! 8. We asked our PhD student Celinda Palm 11 random questions. The gist: she loves being a student here. So much in fact she would give all that was left of 50 million SEK after she had paid off her student debt. Not much in other words. 9. Lisen ended the speed talk with 3 minutes of beautiful cello meditation. Let the autumn begin.
