The gist of our Monday meeting

1. Master’s student Aaron Tuckey aaronjtuckey@gmail.com and guitar partner Joey Belmondo presented their poem “A call to arms: A poem for COP25”. 2. Niak Koh <niak.koh@su.se>; Erik Andersson (erik.andersson@su.se) and Aaron Tuckey aaronjtuckey@gmail.com reported back from the MSc course “Sustainable Baltic Cities” taking place late October in Tallinn, a 4-day course on interdisciplinary urban planning for master’s students, competition 3. Steven Lade steven.lade@su.se introduced a new paper looking at potential feedbacks between loss of biosphere integrity and climate change. 4. Garry P garry.peterson@stockholmresilience.su.se provided an update on our PhD programmes and how they have done since 2013: 31 people have graduated, they finish in time, most of them (but not all!) remain in research and 8-10 new students are expected to graduate in 2020! 5. Owen Gaffney (owen.gaffney@su.se) presented the recently published Nature Commentary on Climate tipping points. More than half of the climate tipping points identified a decade ago are now “active”. Peter Sogaard Jorgensen peter.sogaard.jorgensen@su.se presented the benefits of working with early career researchers (beyond them just being cheap labour) and how various early career networks have sprung up over the past 10 years 7. Thomas Elmqvist Thomas.Elmqvist@su.se introduced a new transdisciplinary PhD course in collaboration with Helsinki University: Theme: co-design, co-production, co-implementation with urban examples. Taking place mid to late August 2020 outside Helsinki. No. of PhD students from SRC: 5 8. Miriam Huitric miriam.huitric@su.se provided an overview of various pedagogic courses available at the university + reminding us about the Erasmus+ Deadline which is 7 January 2020.
