There is an upcoming SocSES short course “The Resilience of Urban Social-Ecological-Technological Systems” that will take place online October 19-23, 2026. You can find more information on the website here: https://socses.org/short-courses/ The deadline for applications is September 8, 2026

SocSES is aiming to invite 25-30 graduate students and would really like to have a strong cohort spanning multiple disciplines and with broad participation from different regions in the world. In the past, this course has helped to create lasting networks of early-career researchers who have gone on to collaborate on papers and projects and I sincerely hope that this year’s group of students has the same opportunity. Course lecturers and sub-topics include: Sara Meerow - Climate change & cities Nikki Franzeskaki - Urban transformation & sustainability Mikhail Chester - Resilience & urban infrastructure Yeowon Kim - Resilience & urban infrastructure Hallie Eakin - Informality Maike Hamann - Informality Marta Berbes-Blaquez - Urban imaginaries Carly Ziter - Nature-based solutions in cities Nancy Grimm - SETS framework Michael Schoon - Resilience & engineering
