PhD Autumn School in Portugal on Transformations to Sustainability

In October an Autumn School that focuses on topics such as place-based development, grassroots innovations, and adaptive governance will take place in Aveiro, Portugal. This is part of the Marie Curie project SUSPLACE (Sustainable Place Shaping).
The SUSPLACE Autumn School 2017 welcomes applications from PhD candidates and Early Stage Researchers with an interest in transformations to sustainability, with a particular focus on place-based development, grassroots innovations and adaptive governance.<br />Hosted by the University of Aveiro, Portugal and taking place from October 2-6, 2017, the Autumn School aims to bring together a dedicated group of participants that will work towards a shared and deepened understanding of the transformative capacity of sustainable place-shaping practices, discussing in particular:<br /><br />social innovation <br />grassroots initiatives <br />collaborative learning <br />adaptive governance<br />place-based development <br />sustainability <br />social-ecological systems <br />transformative capacity<br /><br />The programme includes keynote lectures by renowned scholars as prof. Katherine Gibson (Western Sydney University), prof. Adrian Smith (SPRU/STEPS Centre) dr. Maria Tengö (Stockholm Resilience Centre), prof. Celeste Coelho (University of Aveiro) & prof. Artur da Rosa Pires (University of Aveiro); workshops discussing theoretical approaches, concepts and methodological issues; interactive sessions in which participants present their research proceedings and get feedback from fellow students and tutors.<br /><br />The fee is €300, excluding costs for travel and accommodation, but including lunches, fieldtrips, course materials and one joint dinner. The Autumn School is organised by SUSPLACE, a MSCA ITN project funded by the EU-commission that trains 15 Early Stage Researchers in innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to study and further enhance sustainable place-shaping practices.<br /><br />Visit www.susplace.net for more information.
