OECD Mainstreaming Environment

2021-02-04 18:16

The OECD is is the process of revisiting the concept and practice of mainstreaming. They are looking for feedback and engagement with interested researchers from SRC.

From Ola Goransson (ola.goransson@oecd.org) We at the OECD ENVIRONET secretariat, together with Sida and other members, will work on mainstreaming of environment and climate in development co-operation. Mainstreaming - integrating environmental concerns - is of course not a new activity, and substantial work in ENVIRONET has been done earlier, in particular a so called peer learning exercise of a couple of years ago when three members participated in a study on how they mainstream and a framework was developed (https://www.oecd.org/dac/greening-development-co-operation-62cc4634-en.htm) To now restart and go deeper on this subject, we aim to kick-off by briefly revisiting the concept and practice of mainstreaming. The aim is to understand how current, major developments such as the focus on climate and green growth, Paris alignment, Covid-19 recovery, the biodiversity crisis, etc, may be impacting on the playing field for mainstreaming, and what the framing, challenges, opportunities and focus areas for working with mainstreaming should be, going forwards. It would be very interesting to hear any views and ideas from you at the Resilience Centre on this. If you or any of your colleagues would be interested, I’d be happy to set up a Teams chat in the next couple of weeks.
