Hi all, Much of the public discourse on AI's environmental footprint is inaccurate or simply outdated. Things have moved fast, and good numbers are hard to find. At this BBL I'll be going through what we actually know, drawing on sources like Google's environmental disclosures, the IEA's Energy and AI report, and recent work in Nature. This covers energy and water demand at the global scale, the local impacts of data centres, and what personal AI use adds up to. By the end, I hope you'll have a clearer picture of what we know and don't know about the environmental impact of AI.
